Lord Soames (grandson of former British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill) will be joining BSMF Chairman, Viscount Slim, and the Charity’s Director, Mark Cann – along with other speakers - for a special talk about all things Burma Star at the 2026 Hereford Military Show.
They will bring to life not only the strategy and scale of the Burma Campaign but also the extraordinary human stories behind it and why they continue to matter today. Lucy Betteridge Dyson tells of the remarkable contributions of animals in Burma, how the bravery of soldiers and the loyalty of animals shaped the region’s story.
Chaired by Nicholas Soames, Lord Soames of Fletchling, they discuss what makes a great leader, and how the history reflects what is happening in Burma today. This event offers a unique blend of history and tribute, that brings Burma’s past and present to life and connects Burma today with this extraordinary legacy.
The Burma Star Memorial Fund Mobile Museum will also be at the September event, along with some of world's leading military historians and authors reflecting on the 250th anniversary of the American War of Independence, the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War and the 80th anniversary of the start of the Cold War with Soviet Russia and the Communist bloc.
They will also be examining the role of military force in the creation of the British Empire, celebrating a personal link to the Forgotten Army in Burma in WW2, reviewing the current geopolitical landscape and much, much more.
